Retired to Fleet Reserve October 1, 1998
Retired U.S. Navy after 20 years of service. In 1978 I attended bootcamp at Worm Island, Naval Training Center, San Diego, California. My first duty station was the USS Shenandoah AD-26 out of Norfolk, Va. There I participated in my first Med Cruise, where we hit ports of call like Naples, Trieste, Gaeta, Valencia, Barcelona to name a few. After the Shen, I went to the USS Paul FF-1080 out of Mayport, Fla. There I did 2 Med cruise's and numerous other "trips" out to sea. In 1982, I got out of the Navy for about 5 months and came right back. That was when they sent me to NAVSUPFAC Diego Garcia. After the "Rock", I went to the Naval Training Center Police Department San Diego as a Patrolman, then later a shift supervisor. It was in 1987 that I reported to Assault Craft Unit One in Coronado, Ca. I operated both LCM's and LCU's as a Craftmaster of LCU 1652. While there, I had operated with just about every Amphib ship on the West Coast. I went on a Western Pacific tour onboard the USS Tarawa LHA-1 and also joined the USS Mount Vernon LSD 39 for operations in Price William Sound after the Exxon Valdez oil spill. After spending 6 years at ACU-1, I took orders to Commander Fleets Activites Yokosuka, Japan. Here I worked a brief time on the Harbor tugs, then went on to run the Discipline Barracks. After Japan, I came back to Coronado, Ca. at Amphibios Construction Battalion One. It was there that I worked as the Leading Chief of Bravo Boats along with a tour in Operations with S-3. I retired from the Navy while stationed at ACB-1 and today live in Baton Rouge, Louisiana with the Love of my Life, Bridgette K5BRG. I work at the Job Challenge Program in Carville, La. as the Program Coordinator.
